Tips and Tricks
Have a tip or trick you'd like to submit? Email it to db@etree.org and we'll post it.
Deleting Shows
To delete a show from your list, click on the show date and use the delete show link on the detail page.
Adding New Sources
You can add new sources to be reviewed by our volunteers using the Add Source link.
Adding Filesets Fast
The quickest way to add a SHN or FLAC fileset to your list is to paste one of the checksums into the box at the bottom of the sources in circulation page. If the fileset is in the database, you'll be taken to it. If not, you can add it.
Waiting For Changes To Be Approved?
If you submit a show change request, or a add a new SHN/FLAC fileset, please give the admin a few days to process it. If nothing happens, follow up! The admins are listed on the sources in circulation page for each artist: http://db.etree.org/shncirc and, if you get no response, please let us site admins know. Click the "contact us" link to find out how.
Date standards
To add shows with an unknown date, substitute "??" for any part of the date that's unknown. ??/??/74 or 04/??/93 are all acceptable formats; please don't create 00/00/74 or 04/xx/93 since it makes it harder for other users to find these shows!
Fix a band's name!
If you see a band's name with a typo in it, send us an email at db@etree.org and we can fix it up. If you see two artist entries that are actually the same artist, you can use the merge artists tool to suggest the merge; include a note if you can to explain. An admin will review the suggestion in a day or two.
Can't find your list?
If you haven't updated your list in over six months, your list will not appear in "browse collections". But it's not gone! To make it re-appear in that listing, just add or delete a show from your list, and it will show up again the next day.
My show isn't showing up!
If you add a new show record to the database, it might not show up in the "Browse shows" listing right away. The artist pages are cached for ~24 hours (to reduce server strain), so the next time they are regenerated, your new listing will magically appear.
Can't Find Your Show?
If you just added a show to the database and got the "this show will go into a queue" message, it may already exist in the database. Try adding it using http://db.etree.org/myshows_add.php instead! If you're adding a second show on that date, wait 24 hours for the record to be added to the database and then try that link to add the record to your list.
Stickers
From time to time, people have made etree.org stickers. Seen any in the wild? Let someone know.
Dealing with Error Messages
Sometimes, db.etree will tell you that it cannot connect to the database or that there has been a "proxy error" or another mysterious problem. When this happens, try pressing F5 or clicking your browser's refresh button. Usually, that resubmits your data, and things go through the second time.
Google Chrome
The db admin team has just begun testing Google Chrome for compatibility with db.etree.org. If you're using Chrome, please e-mail us and let us know what you think?
